Malaysia Racism Report

Pusat KOMAS started the Malaysian Racism Report (formerly known as the Malaysian Racial Discrimination Report) as an annual publication since 2015 to keep a record of reported incidents and monitor the trends and patterns of racial discrimination in Malaysia.

For the past decade, these exploratory reports have captured the trends of racial discrimination, but do not claim to cover the holistic view of the issues reported within Malaysia. With the report, we intend to hold all parties who engage in racially discriminatory behaviours accountable, while identifying new and improved ways to combat racial discrimination in Malaysia.

As conjunction with the 10th year of the ongoing initiative, Pusat KOMAS has published the Malaysia Racism Report: A Decade In Review (2015-2024) to take a retrospective look at the past decade in an attempt to paint a picture of the state of racial relations on Malaysia over this eventful period of time and answer the question – where do we go from here?

Psychological Research on the Malaysian National Identity

In 2021, Pusat KOMAS conducted a psychological research project on the national identity among Malaysians. Forty Malaysians were interviewed on what they thought and felt about their ethnic identity and national identity, as well as their general thoughts about the nation. Based on our preliminary analysis of the rich qualitative data, we found a pattern of ambivalent national identity among Malaysians.
