Pusat KOMAS is appalled by the efforts by certain parties which deliberately slow down the process of institutional reforms in the country. These parties have been raising the issue of race and religion in the appointment of civil servants.

It is essential to note that the process of institutional reforms looks seriously on the reformation of key institutions in the nation such as the financial institutions, judiciary, executives, legislators and general administration. The reform process does not encompass the changes in policy and administrative matters only; but instead, includes the changes in leadership and organizational structure.

However, it is disappointing that there are still groups who oppose the noble and important effort to restore the institutions in Malaysia by using race and religion as an excuse. This is reflected in the appointment of Mr. Lim Guan Eng as the Minister of Finance of Malaysia and the now, hotly debated nomination of Mr. Tommy Thomas as the Attorney General by Putrajaya. These groups have constantly opposed the appointment and nomination of Putrajaya by insisting that these posts should be held by a Malay-Muslim to protect the interests of the race and religion.

Pusat KOMAS believes that the archaic thinking of race and religion should not be a criterion in the selection of key leaders in the nation as the appointment of these leaders should be based on their knowledge and expertise and not solely on their race and religion. We would also like to remind that it was because of that archaic thinking that Malaysia has undergone a difficult moment in its history. Hence, it is imperative for us to learn from our past and move away from the usage of race and religion in Malaysia.

Pusat KOMAS would also like to remind that the general public in Malaysia has rejected and buried the notion of racial and religion on 9th May 2018. Hence, we would like to invite everyone including those who are otherwise convinced to support the government’s decision to select and nominate individuals who are competent and knowledgeable to fill up important key positions in the nation. It is through the selection and appointment of these highly competent people that the process of institutional reform could go on smoothly. Only then, Malaysia will be able to be a better nation.

Kaum dan Agama tidak Relevan Bagi Pelantikan Jawatan Penjawat Am

Pusat KOMAS memandang serius kepada usaha-usaha setengah pihak yang cuba memperlahankan proses reformasi dan pemulihan negara dengan memainkan isu perkauman dan agama dalam pelantikan penjawat awam.
Umum mengetahui bahawa proses reformasi ini secara seriusnya melihat kepada pemulihan institusi-institusi utama negara seperti institusi kewangan, kehakiman, eksekutif, legislatif termasuk juga petadbiran am. Usaha reformasi ini turut difahamkan bukan sahaja melibatkan perubahan dalam polisi dan kaedah pentadbiran tetapi juga perubahan kepimpinan dan struktur organisasi.

Atas perihal ini, adalah suatu yang amat mengecewakan apabila masih terdapat beberapa kumpulan yang menentang usaha murni ini dengan memainkan isu perkauman dan agama sebagai sandaran dalam menolak calon-calon yang dinamakan dalam mengisi ruang dalam pentadbiran negara. Perkara ini dapat dilihat didalam pelantikan Lim Guang Eng sebagai Menteri Kewangan dan yang sedang hangat diperkatakan kini, pencalonan Tommy Thomas sebagai Peguam Negara oleh Putrajaya.

Pusat KOMAS berpandangan bahawa Malaysia sebagai sebuah negara yang mempunyai roh baru dalam mengejar cita-cita membina ketamadunan bermaruah dan berdaya saing, adalah menjadi satu keperluan untuk meletakkan individu yang terbaik dari pelbagai sudut ilmu dan adab, untuk diangkat menjadi pemimpin dan bukannya berdasarkan kaum atau agama semata-mata. Negara telahpun mengalami tempoh terburuk dalam sejarah akibat dari pemikiran sempit perkauman dan agama sebelum ini dan ia seharusnya dijadikan tauladan dan bukan ikutan.

Oleh yang demikian, Pusat KOMAS ingin mengajak semua pihak, termasuk mereka yang berpendirian sebaliknya, untuk sedar bahawa pemikiran sempit perkauman dan agama telah sebenarnya terkubur pada 9 May 2017. Pusat KOMAS seterusnya mengingatkan di saat ini, negara tercinta kita memerlukan golongan yang terbaik untuk berada di peringkat kepimpinan dan pentadbiran bagi memastikan proses reformasi institusi berjalan dengan lancar. Hanya dengan itu,Malaysia mampu menjadi negara bangsa yang lebih baik dari sebelumnya.
