We are pleased to invite you to the launch of the campaign to speed up the process of the ratification of the International Convention of Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD). This campaign is the effort by a coalition of civil society organizations called the “CERD Working Group” with Pusat KOMAS playing the coordinating role.
The ratification of the ICERD is important to ensure that the government recognizes its obligation and work towards a higher standard of unity and tolerance in Malaysia. The current situation in Malaysia, where race and religion are very much debated, it is imperative that the space for healthy and free discourse and discussion on identity issues especially of race and ethnicity must be encouraged and provided for.
As part of this campaign, we will be organizing a forum “Aku Bangsa Malaysia: Cerita Rakyat” together with the official launching of this campaign. The forum will have ordinary people from the ground sharing their experience on racism from the perspective of Politics, Social & Cultural differences, being Minority and Enforcements. .
