We are pleased to announce the “8th National Conference on Non-Discrimination: “Malaysia Closer towards ICERD Ratification”. This conference is the 8th in a series of conference organized by Pusat KOMAS since 2011 as part of our campaign on non-discrimination and addressing racism in Malaysia.
Over the years, the conference has engaged with several prominent personalities in their field of non-discrimination such as Dr Mutuma Ruteere, the UN Special Rapporteur on Contemporary forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance; Ms. Karima Bennoune, the UN Special Rapporteur in the field of Cultural Rights and Ms. Rita Iszak, the UN Independent Expert on Minority Issues.
The aim of the conference is to provide a platform to hold discussions and critically analyse issues on non-discrimination with multi-stakeholders such as government and non-government departments and agencies, experts from the region, academicians and civil societies.
The objectives of the conference are:
- To encourage the government to expedite the process of the ratification of ICERD in line with the Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto.
- To understand the reservations on the ratification of ICERD in Malaysia and identify solutions and way forward that would expedite the process of the ratification of ICERD in Malaysia
- To learn and emulate the best practices from countries in the region that have ratified the ICERD
